We all ought to be grateful for our friends who are honest about their bullshit.
A very talented artist I worked with late last year said something in the group chat that shone a light on my recent career existentialism; he described his feeling as “result-oriented, fast-paced, self-important artists fog.” Fireworks went off in my head reading those words. That was it! Of course it was. But I could only see it clearly when he wrote it because we had both just witnessed/experienced a spectacular public failure.
